The stops
Þingvellir National Park. The name means “Assembly Plains”. Iceland’s parliament, the Alþingi, was founded here around 930 and met here until 1798, and the site is protected as a national shrine. It sits on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, where the rifting between the tectonic plates is plain to see.
Geysir. The famous geothermal area with steaming ground and hot springs that shoot water into the air.
Gullfoss. The “Golden Waterfall” on the Hvítá river, fed by glacial meltwater.
