Private South Coast and Black Sand Beach Tour

A full day along Iceland’s South Coast in a private vehicle, with only your own group. You’ll see four very different waterfalls, walk on the black sand at Reynisfjara and stop for lunch in Vík, the southernmost town on the Icelandic mainland.

The stops

Urriðafoss. A wide, powerful waterfall on the Þjórsá river, between Selfoss and Hella. It isn’t tall, but the volume of water is impressive, and the river is known for salmon fishing in summer.

Hvolsvöllur. A small town of about 1,100 people on the Ring Road, and our refreshment stop.

Seljalandsfoss. A 60 m waterfall fed from beneath the Eyjafjallajökull glacier. A path leads all the way behind the falling water.

Gljúfrabúi. The “Canyon Dweller”, a 40 m waterfall hidden behind a cliff a short walk from Seljalandsfoss. You reach it through a narrow gap in the rock, so expect a little spray.

Skógafoss. One of Iceland’s best-known waterfalls, 25 m wide. The ground in front is flat, so you can walk right up to it, and a staircase climbs to a viewpoint at the top. On sunny days there’s almost always a rainbow in the spray.

Reynisfjara. Iceland’s most famous black sand beach, close to Vík. Please take the sneaker waves seriously: never turn your back on the sea and keep a safe distance from the water.

Vík. The southernmost town on the mainland and our lunch stop.

Why book it private?

The South Coast is a long day, and doing it privately makes a real difference. You decide how long to stay at each waterfall, take breaks when you need them, and never wait for a full coach to reload.
